Army Reserve Service Rifle Team at Interservice

Interservice competition has a six decade history of open, high-level competition that is well represented by the Army Reserve and all of the services.

Shooters of the Army Reserve Service Rifle Team competed at the 59th Interservice Rifle Championships at the Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Virginia. These championships, hosted by the U.S. Marine Corps’ Weapons Training Battalion from August 16 to 23, are an annual competition and information sharing event conducted among the U.S. military services.

“The 59th Interservice Rifle Championship offers service rifle competitions for teams and individuals representing the Armed Services, Active, Reserve and National Guard, to include ROTC and Service Academies of the United States,” noted Master Sgt. Donald Ross McClester, USMC and Match Director.

The Army Reserve team won the High Reserve Component in Match #13, the Interservice Rifle Team Championship (10 Man Team match) and a primary team match at the event, and second overall in the 1000 Yard Team Match. Individually, the team took a number top three awards, including Match 5 (Interservice Army Match 600 Yards) and the Rifle Excellence In Competition.

“Given current Army guidance on COVID-19, most of our competition season was canceled this year, however, our team members continued to practice at home on their own time to keep their skills sharp,” said Sgt. 1st Class Adam Stauffer, the NCOIC of the Service Rifle team. “It was good to get one match in for this fiscal year and I’m pleased that my team arrived prepared.”
