7–11. USAR marksmanship training awards

The US Army Reserve has a number of awards recognizing selected individuals and units of various sizes having contributed the most to improving marksmanship within the Army Reserve every fiscal year.

Submit your individual and unit nominees to the USAR Marksmanship Program Public Affairs and what they have contributed the most to improving marksmanship within the Army Reserve.

BG Harry J. Mott III award – Individual Reservist

All Reserve Soldiers, assigned in any capacity, and DOD civilians assigned to a position that promotes, assists, develops and/or conducts marksmanship training will be eligible to compete for the BG Harry J. Mott III annual award for promotion of marksmanship training. Individuals may nominate themselves or others by submitting the following to the Army Reserve Marksmanship Program.

  • Name, rank, SSN, unit of assignment, duty position, and unit mailing address.
  • Narrative summary of what the individual has accomplished to promote marksmanship training in the USAR.
  • Immediate commander’s name, rank, and telephone number.
  • Summary of accomplishments in marksmanship training.  List all shooting programs supported, public affairs activities promoting marksmanship activities, participation and accomplishments in competitive shooting programs of any type (internal and external to the unit). Include other information considered applicable to promoting marksmanship skills in the USAR.

Attach all recommendations and other supporting documents and forward to arrive NLT 15 September of the applicable training year.

USAR Small Unit Training Award

USAR TPUs and drilling IMAs (DIMAs) with a strength of 75 or less are eligible to compete for the annual USAR Marksmanship Small Unit Training Award. Units will submit the following NLT 15 September of the applicable training year:

  • Unit designation.
  • Complete mailing address and telephone number.
  • Commander’s name, rank, branch, SSN, home address, and telephone number.
  • Statement listing authorized strength and average strength during the applicable training year.
  • Summary of accomplishments in marksmanship training.  List all shooting programs supported, public affairs activities promoting marksmanship activities, participation and accomplishments in competitive shooting programs of any type (internal and external to the unit). Include other information considered applicable to promoting marksmanship skills in the USAR.

USAR Company Level Marksmanship Training Award

USAR Troop Program Units (companies, batteries, troops, higher level command headquarters, etc.) with a strength of over 75 or are eligible to compete for the annual USAR Company Level Marksmanship Training Award. Units eligible to compete for this award will follow the same procedures as outlined above NLT 15 September of the applicable training year.

USAR Large Unit Marksmanship Training Award

USAR Troop Program Units MTOE battalions, squadrons, and hospitals are eligible to compete for the annual USAR Large Unit Marksmanship Training Award. Units eligible to compete for this award will follow the same procedures outlined above NLT 15 September of the applicable training year.
